The annual WARN-sponsored SkyWARN spotter training is *tomorrow*, April
1 @ 7pm -- 10870 Kenwood Road in Blue Ash.
A few notes from the March 19 meeting...
- high flood threat across the area for 3-4 weeks
- expect a warmer/wetter spring than averages
- expect a cooler summer than average
There were 39 tornado warnings issued by the office in 2010. The goal
is for 87% detection and 12 minutes "lead time". The Wilmington office
beat the detection goal and averaged 13 minutes "lead time".
The next Advanced Spotter Training will be sponsored by Franklin County
(Ohio) EMA and will be held at OSU's Fawcett Centre in 2012.
NWS will be set up at Dayton again this year in the "Silver" area, booth
0320 (same as last year).
We are continuing to work on "backup communications" possibilities for
Wilmington to stay in contact with Cleveland/OH and Jackson/KY during a
communications outage.
The primary Dayton SkyWARN repeater (146.64-) has been recoordinated for
a higher profile and will be moving there soon.
There was a possibility, at meeting time, that NWS would be withdrawing
from the Ohio statewide tornado drill due to severe weather
possibilities, and indeed, that happened.
That's all from the meeting. Hope to see some old and new faces at the
training session on Friday.
