Severe Weather Warning Radios

The recent tornado in the Cincinnati area has greatly increased interest
in
NOAA weather alert receivers. WARN believes these radios provide the best
option for personal severe weather warning. For homes and businesses,
they
are much more effective than depending on outdoor warning sirens. Outdoor
warning sirens are only effective when/where they can be heard.
Right now, demand is exceeding supply on weather alert receivers in this
area, especially the newer technology SAME (Specific Area Message
Encoding)
receivers that allow you to program which counties for which you wish to
receive alerts. Electronics stores are constantly replenishing their
supplies as they are exhausted. Even though they are more expensive, we
highly recommend this newer style radio. Since you only receive alerts of
interest to you, fewer people tend to get complacent and turn them off.
Some people who have been able to locate these radios have stated that
they
can't find the codes for area counties. Here is a list of local SAME
county
codes:
Indiana:
Dearborn 018029
Franklin 018047
Ohio 018115
Ripley 018137
Switzerland 018155
Kentucky:
Boone 021015
Bracken 021023
Campbell 021037
Gallatin 021077
Grant 021081
Kenton 021117
Owen 021187
Pendleton 021191
Ohio:
Brown 039015
Butler 039017
Clermont 039025
Clinton 039027
Hamilton 039061
Warren 039165
For counties not listed here, the National Weather Service maintains a
list
of all codes for the United States and its territories at
